  "The Afghan girl with the haunting green eyes captivated everyone. That captivation proved, once again, the power of photography to open eyesâ;;and hearts and mindsâ;;with a single image."

  That's the one photo that will always stand out in my memory from National Geographic. I have never seen piercing yet beautifully hypnotic eyes like those.

    The photographer who took her pic was equally haunted by her, and after the Taliban was overthrown, he went back to try and find her and she did.

      Yes that photograph is like the modern day Mona Lisa in my opinion.

      I was just thinking about where she might be now, do you have a link to that story marlenebomer?

        Yes! I remember a TV show where NG did find her marlenebomer. They DID find her years later, and her eyes never lost they're allure and luster.

  Here's a an interesting note.

  In the early days of the NGS, they had pics of men and women from exotic locations. A few years ago, the Society admitted in the magazine that the pic they had of a woman living in a harem was actually a male, due to the tribal restriction of a woman in the same room as a man (the photographer) not her husband...
