"The Afghan girl with the haunting green eyes captivated everyone. That captivation proved, once again, the power of photography to open eyesâ;;and hearts and mindsâ;;with a single image."
That's the one photo that will always stand out in my memory from National Geographic. I have never seen piercing yet beautifully hypnotic eyes like those.

Here's a an interesting note.
In the early days of the NGS, they had pics of men and women from exotic locations. A few years ago, the Society admitted in the magazine that the pic they had of a woman living in a harem was actually a male, due to the tribal restriction of a woman in the same room as a man (the photographer) not her husband...
